What does New York have that no other city does?

Its the vibe. From the minute you arrive the energy and excitement consumes you. A city that truly never sleeps. With so much to see and do, you may only have time for a power nap.

A Weekend in The City

What are the must do’s if you only have a few days in this amazing city? Whether you are an introvert or a thrill seeker, Broadway is enjoyed by all. Dinner and the theater is always on my to do list whenever I’m in NY. Some of my favorite musicals are Hell’s Kitchen, Wicked and Hadestown.

Before the show, grab an early dinner at Lillie’s Victorian. The ambiance of this restaurant is like stepping into a Victorian dream. An elegant little gem with delicious food. If you are not feeling heady by the magic of this place you will after sipping on their specialty cocktails. May I recommend getting Lost In Love, a flavorful martini that will leave you giddy.

Here are a few more must for your list:

  • All About The Views: New York is known for its skyscrapers and lights. Many people gather at times square to look up in marvel at it all. However, there are many ways to take in the views. Head to the top of the infamous Empire State Building or grab a photo op at the Edge. Want to take your time taking it all in? Make your way to Hudson Pier 57. This pier has a rooftop park perfect for picnics and sunsets. Day or night the vistas will be epic.
  • Culture and History: Spend the day museum hopping. From modern art to history, there are many to choose from. I have always enjoyed visiting the American Museum of Natural History. Taking up four city blocks it has multiple floors of exhibits to explore. When you’ve had your fill, cross the street to the infamous Central Park. The small zoo in this park that is definitely worth the visit. Enjoy a Nathan’s hot dog and people watch or take a carriage ride through the park. Prefer art over history? You have many options. The Museum of Modern Art has some unique pieces to see. However, if you prefer more iconic works of art, The Guggenheim has Picasso and Kandinsky on display.
  • Shopping In The City: New York is a major fashion capital. Known for its designer labels and trendsetting styles. If you are like me, you never pay the retail price. Instead of shopping the infamous Fifth Ave, choose to peruse the many thrift stores in the city. Did someone say vintage? Well let me point you in the right direction. East Village Thrift Shop, Beacon’s Closet and 2nd Street will have some great finds.

Best of the Bronx: Exploring Other Boroughs

Let me take you to my hometown. The place where hip hop culture was born and home of the legendary Yankees. This borough has plenty to see. Take in a ball game at Yankee Stadium and feel the energy of the fans. Hot dogs, beer, and nuts. Oh my! Not into games? Take a stroll through the beautiful Botanical Gardens or visit The Bronx Zoo. You will easily lose yourself as you become immersed in all there is to see.

Wondering about the nightlife. Head out to City Island where you can enjoy an amazing dinner with a view. Dine by the sea and enjoy a drink or two without leaving the city. Known for it’s delicious seafood and quaint town vibe, you won’t leave disappointed. Take a walk around the town to burn off some calories before heading back to your lodging.

Wait, there is one more thing you absolutely have to do before leaving the Bronx. Your trip won’t be complete until you indulge in some of our famous New York pizza. Sold by the slice , but as big as a pie and almost impossible to resist. I must warn you. Once you taste our mouthwatering pizzas, nothing else will compare. “Yo, let me get two slices!”

A Slower Pace and Natural Beauty

If you have more time to spend in New York, I recommend taking in the natural beauty of upstate. Watkins Glen and the Fingerlakes region offer stunning backdrops. While the small town of Corning has plenty of unique shops and museums to explore.

Upstate Gems

Sometimes you want to break away from the busy city life in search of a calmer path. The epic views aren’t the only thing upstate New York has to offer. It’s a more affordable option to staying in the city.

  1. Gorge Trail: How do I begin to describe such a magical place? Gorge trail is a short but breathtaking trail. Over 800 steps leading you through 19 waterfalls and rock formations. One of my favorite stops was at Rainbow Falls. The sound of the water is all you hear as you walk behind it. Pause here and let it all in. You will feel awed and blessed when you reach the end.
  2. Fingerlakes Wine Trail: A trail that will tantalize all five senses. While I haven’t explored every winery in this region, there was one I did enjoy. Boundary Breaks will deliver aesthetically pleasing views and savory juice. Known for there Rieslings and Cab Franc. Take a day to taste them all. If you are a dog owner, you will love this particular vineyard. At Boundary Breaks they have a huge dog park and welcome your fur baby in the tasting room. Now that’s something you won’t find in California.
  3. Small Town Vibes: Summer and Corning usually means festivals and farmers markets at the Gaffer District. Take a stroll on Main Street for some shopping and good eats. I love to pop into the two story antique store. Grab a coffee at Soul Full Cup Coffeehouse or lunch at Nickels Pit BBQ. Make sure you take time out to visit the museums. Both the Rockwell Museum and The Corning Museum of Glass are worth the visit.

New York has so much to offer visitors. Whether you crave the excitement of the city or the adventure of rural parts of the state. You won’t leave disappointed.
